Bout of Books 12

I’m back for my second Bout of Books! The first one I did was in August. I did…okay. Words were read. That’s all that matters. Below is information regarding Bout of Books if you would like to join. My TBR is currently TBA. I’m still figuring that out. Will let you know when I know.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 5th and runs through Sunday, January 11th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 12 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Holiday Reading List

This should be my last Blogmas post. It was fun though! I missed a few days, but kept going. I’m going out of town for the Holiday and will be taking books of course. I have a week of reading on my hands. I won’t be posting again until I do my favorite posts. I’m going to do multiple post this year. Last year I just did one. This year there will be more to talk about. Anyway, I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. Here are the books that will be coming with me. Some are physical books and some are on my Kindle. I hope to at least finish 2 of these. It would be awesome if I could do a bit more, but I’m not going to rush myself.

Bookish Scenarios Book Tag

Tag was created by Lindsay Hearts Books. Let’s do this!

1. You have to get rid of all your books and you can only keep one from each of these genres – contemporary, fantasy, non-fiction and one other genre of your choosing. What books do you keep?

At first this question seemed hard. Then I saw that I could just get e-books (I’ve decided that books = physical books for this scenario. lol) from the rest of my books.

Contemporary: Vicous by V.E. Schwa (can I consider this contemporary? Doing it anyway!)
Fantasy: Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
Non-Fiction: In the Kingdom of Ice by Hampton Sides (haven’t read this yet, but the cover is so pretty!)
Literary: The History of Love by Nicole Kraus

2. You’re at the bookstore and you hear a teenager telling their mom they don’t like to read, but their mom insists they pick something. You walk over and recommend a book you think is great for people who aren’t big on reading – what book is it?

It’s an easy read and they would be able to find someone to discuss this book with. A lot of people have read it if you don’t know. (That was sarcasm if you weren’t sure. There really needs to be a sarcasm font).

3. You’re not feeling yourself and need a pick me up. Which book do you read to put yourself in a great mood?

This book is hot chocolate, roasted marshmallows, thin mints(!), and all kinds of cuteness.

4. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years. What book would you most likely have caught yourself reading?

Hmm. I didn’t read as much as I do now in high school. The books I did read though, I believe, were Judy Blume books, Sweet Valley High, and The Babysitter’s Club.

5. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day trip and you have 1 hour to pack. Which book do you bring to read on the way?

Probably the one I’m currently reading. I’ll bring my Kindle too.

6. Your house has been robbed! Don’t worry – everyone is safe, but your bookshelf has been raided. What’s the book you really hope is safe?

All of them? Probably the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy. Or Harry Potter.

7. Your friend borrows a book and returns it in awful condition. Do you a) Just pretend you haven’t noticed b) Ask them to repurchase it or c) Secretly do the same to something of theirs.

This has actually happened to me. What did I do? I stopped loaning out books. I will only loan a book to one person because I know she can take care of them.

Tis The Season Book Tag

This tag was created by RichardReads https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsND…. Let’s get started!

1. Do you have a favorite winter read?

I now have all the books so I can read these around this time every year! I also own the movies, so I can watch them around this time too. With the books I still plan on reading the rest of this month, I’ll most likely just watch the movies. That is if I can pry myself away from re-watching Doctor Who.

2. Find a book with blue on the cover.

3. Find a book you’d use as the star on a Christmas tree.

So pretty!

4. Pick one fictional place that would be perfect for a winter vacation.

I mean, it would be fitting for the winter, right? I would probably actually choose Hogwarts, but I love this cover.

5. Pick one fictional character you’d take with you on your winter vacation.

Charlie Lawton. He’s smart and adorable and such a good guy.

6. Name one book on your wish list this year.

7. Favorite holiday drink, treat, & more?

Drink: Peppermint anything (coffee, tea, hot chocolate).
Treat: Pie. Apple, pumpkin, sweet potato. I love eating pie this time of year.
More: I love watching Home Alone during the holidays.

5 Most Anticipated Books of 2015 (So Far)

A new year is almost here. Which means more books will be coming out and wanting my attention. I haven’t had time to look at all the books coming out next year, but I do know a few coming out in the early months and these are ones I’m really anticipating.

  • A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab (2/24/15). I don’t know if you know this, but Vicious (written by V.E. Schwab) is one of my favorite books. EVER. Oh you did? Tired of me saying it? Well sorry, I’m not going to stop saying that. When I found out this book existed, the first thing I did was find I could hang out with it. After that, I read the summary. Parallel universes. Magicians. Treason. Yep. Can not wait to read this.
  • Golden Son by Pierce Brown (1/6/15). This is the second book of the Red Rising trilogy. I’m currently finishing up the 1st book and unless something drastic happens in the remaining pages, I’m going to be read this.
  • Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (2/10/15). Red blood. Silver blood. A cover up. Rebellion. I believe this is a series (trilogy?). Ready to dive into it.
  • The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon (1/27/15). The 2nd book in The Bone Season series. 7 books there will be. Read the first one over the summer. Really enjoyed it. Can’t wait to read the rest.
  • The Ghosts of Heaven by Marcus Sedgwick (1/6/15). Linked stories. Different time periods. Science/Historical fiction. The linked stories remind me of a certain book on my TBR I still need to read. Not sure when I’ll get this one, but I do want to read it.

Top 5 Re-Reads

I’m doing a Top 5 Wednesday on a Wednesday! But of course I’m not doing the current week’s topic. That would be too normal for me. I’m doing last weeks. My top 5 re-reads. I don’t re-read books a lot. Not really. I’ve decided to list the 5 books I want to re-read, maybe next year. Possibly next year. At least a couple of them, I believe I will re-read next year. Here they are.

1. The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

I haven’t read this in over 10 years. No wait. I think I read it again before the movie came out. Still, it has been a while.

2. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

This will be re-read always. ALWAYS.

3. Vicious by V.E. Schwab

Oh how I love this book. Oh how I want to know what these characters are doing right now.

4. The History of Love by Nicole Krauss

This book is a beauty. Haven’t read it in years and the re-read is overdue.

5. The Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank

This book is definitely getting re-read in 2014. Most likely January. We will see if I remember when I do my TBR for next month.

Reading: This Blogmas Night

IMG_0546

I’m currently reading. I’m actually able to sit down and read tonight. That makes me happy. My current read is Red Rising by Pierce Brown. Currently on 209. I like this book. A lot. I’ve laughed, been sad, and shook my head saying “boys” out loud. I could probably already be finished with this. But other things have gotten in the way. Anyway, I’m just gonna read tonight. Just chill and read.

Blogmas D’Angelo Day!

Did D’Angelo take over your day? He did mine. I did not stay up last night to get the album at midnight. 1) I was sleepy. 2) I had to get up early. We’ll ignore the fact that I woke up late this morning. Anyway, I did listen to this album when I got to work and MY GOODNESS, it was so worth the wait. My plan today was to listen to Nicki Minaj’s new album. D’Angelo messed that up. I’ve listened to some of The Pinkprint and plan to listen to it more this week. I have to say, the music I’ve bought this year have been really good. Found some good music. I’ll talk about that later in a post of my favorite music of 2014. I need to re-listen to some things to name my favorites.

If you aren’t aware of the Black Messiah album, and need a sneak peak, here you go!

Books I Need To Finish

For some reason or another, I have started these 5 books and have yet to finish them. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood at the time. Maybe some other book was screaming at me on my shelf to read it. Maybe I wanted to just read or watch Harry Potter. There are many different possible reasons. I do plan on finishing them at some point. One day. One day I will. Here are the books. The Bone Clocks is on my TBR this year and the plan is still to read it.
