Blogmas Book Haul

IMG_0539

I’ve done pretty well in my book buying the last few months. I bought enough books in July, August, and September to last me for a pretty long while. So I didn’t seek out to buy any new books. Well, until I saw the bookoutlet.com sale for the Black Friday weekend. That’s where most of these came from. Others from Target and Amazon. I also got a new Kindle (!). My Nook is falling apart and I wanted/needed a new one. I didn’t want a tablet, I have an iPad, and I wanted an e-ink device. And it was on sale for $49. And I had some amazon credit. Anyway, here is my book haul.

About That Ohio State Awesomeness

I’m not saying I knew Ohio State would win 59-0. But can I foreshadow awesome or can I foreshadow awesome (haha)! I’m happy my favorite team won. I’m happy they’re in the playoffs. Did I mention how happy I am that they won? Did you miss the game? Well, watch some highlights below.

Series I Want To Start – Blogmas Day 10

I believe I missed a day. I was walking into work this morning and it came to me. I missed yesterday. Oops. Well I will try not to let that happen again. Down to business. I want to talk about series today. Series I want to read. Series I probably should have already read. I have 8. These are in no particular order. Hopefully I can read most of these in 2015.

The Lunar Chronicles

I already own the first two of this series. I might as well start it.

Chaos Walking Trilogy

I’ve heard really good things about this trilogy. Been meaning to pick it up. Still haven’t done it yet. It’s on my list.

The Grisha Trilogy

As mentioned before regarding another series, I already own the first two. I don’t know why I keep buying books and not reading them. Oh yes I do. Because I’m able 🙂

Mistborn

I have the first book on audiobook. I’ve decided I’d rather read these instead of listening. So, picking these up will be something I do next year. Oh and the UK covers, of course. They’re awesome.

The Darkest Minds Trilogy

Own the first one. It’s been on my TBR many times this year. Still has yet to be read. Sigh.

The Infernal Devices / Mortal Instruments

Okay. This could be considered two different series. Own Clockwork Angel. None of the others. Will change that. Need to know what everyone is talking about.

Shatter Me Series

Heard good things. Heard each book gets better and better.

Legend the Series

I listened to the first book on audiobook and really enjoyed it. Just haven’t gotten around to getting the others.

Christmas Cracker Book Tag

Another Blogmas day. Another book tag post. But this one is different. This one is a Christmas book tag! This post was created by lucythereader on youtube. Here we go.

1. Pick a book with a wintery cover.

I love this cover. Although the story and the cover don’t really match for me, (I still haven’t to finish this book. Maybe it does?) I had to buy it to put it on my shelf because I think it’s such a good cover.

2. Pick a book you’re likely to buy as a present.

I have two copies of this book. The audiobook and the hardcover. The physical book is great. The cover, the inside, the pages. They did the story justice. Everyone should have it on their shelf.

3. Pick a festive themed book.

The Christmas scene is enough to put this here. Harry having a very happy Christmas. So much awesome.

4. Pick a book you can curl up with by the fireplace.

I feel like this would be a great one by the fire. I’m rather intrigued by it. I’ll have to wait until January though. I mean, have you seen my December TBR? Of course I could switch things up. Most likely not. But it will be extra cold in January so this book will be perfect.

5. Pick a book you want to read over the festive period.

I’m definitely going to read this book this month. I’ve said it to read this month so I better.

6. Pick a book that’s so good it gives you chills.

This book right here. Love. So much love for it. Thank you V.E. Schwa for writing this.

7. Pick a book going on your Christmas wish-list.

The Harry Potter box set would be fine. Thanks!

Books Over 500 Pages – Top 5 (Wednesday?)

So…I signed up for the Top 5 Wednesday group on Goodreads. As you can see. I have yet to post one of these. Although it isn’t Wednesday, Blogmas is giving me time to catch up. This was one of the November topics. Books that I own that are over 500 pages. I have more than this, like Harry Potter. But since that would almost take up the entire list, I thought I’d try some other books.

Photo Dec 07, 11 00 55 PM (1)

Night Film by Marisha Pessl – 640 pages

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – 552 pages

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss – 662 pages

The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell – 624 pages

Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor – 613 pages

Blogmas Day 6 – I Didn’t Forget!

Okay. I almost forgot. I’m currently watching the Big Ten Championship game. I’m currently really happy. My Buckeyes are up 45-0. Oh buddy. That score is a beauty. Anyway, I’m gonna get back to the game. I’ll leave you with an awesome video done by the Ohio State video people regarding this game. Go Bucks!

Friday Reads 12/5/14

Happy Friday everyone! I have time to read this Friday as well as this weekend since there will be less college football games than usual. Because of this, I have 2 books for tonight and this weekend. They are also apart of my December TBR. I’m hoping to get a lot of reading done this weekend. Especially since I plan on reading all of the books this month. Happy reading to you all!

Taylor Swift Book Tag

This tag was created by The Book Life. Fun tag. Turn up some T. Swift and let’s do this!

1. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
(pick a book or series that you were pretty sure you were in love with, but then wanted to break up with)

The Magicians (The Magicians, #1)

When I started the book, I was very happy. And then I kept reading and kept being annoyed and annoyed with everything. I haven’t decided if I will continue on with this trilogy. Maybe? Possibly?

2. Red
(pick a book with a red cover)

Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2)

3. The Best Day
(pick a book that makes you feel nostalgic)

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (The Chronicles of Narnia, #1)

I remember reading this in elementary. I need to get a copy. I need to get a copy of the entire series. I don’t think I actually read the others.

4. Love Story
(pick a book with a forbidden love)

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1)

I love this book. This couple is great. Karou & Akiva 4-EVA!

5. I Knew You Were Trouble
(pick a book with a bad character you couldn’t help but love)

Vicious

Everyone is terrible. Victor. Eli. Serena. Oh goodness Serena. Everyone is terrible. Everyone is awesome. READ THIS!

6. Innocent
(pick a book that someone ruined the ending for)

Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3)  Allegiant (Divergent, #3)

I don’t get upset over being spoiled the majority of the time. I do my best not to get spoiled. These were just accidents. I think I was watching a youtube video and someone said the Mockingjay thing and I was like “oh”. It still didn’t stop me from being horribly sad when I read it actually happening! Either twitter or youtube or tumblr spoiled Allegiant. I will still read though. I want to know how it gets to that point.

7. Everything Has Changed
(pick a character from a book who goes through extensive character development)

Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1)

I was trying to figure out how to answer this. I couldn’t think of anything and then I remember reading this book earlier this year. It was so cute. Anna did change a lot from the beginning of the book until the end. I was proud of her. haha

8. You Belong With Me
(most anticipated book release)

A Darker Shade of Magic (A Darker Shade of Magic, #1)   The Mime Order (The Bone Season, #2)

So ready for both of these books to be released in 2015.

9. Forever and Always
(favorite book couple)

I don’t have one. Seriously. I have no clue what the answer to this question would be. I feel as if I haven’t met them yet.

10. Come Back, Be Here
(pick the book you would least like to lend out, for fear of missing it too much)

ALL OF THEM! Look. I’ve loaned out my book to people before. Once to a friend’s boyfriend and I never saw that book back because they broke up 😦 Then I’ve loaned out books and, well, they’ve come back falling apart. I have one friend I will lend my books to. She has a history of giving them back nicely. I love looking over and seeing books on my book shelf.

December TBR

Another month, another TBR. This is a rather ambitious month for me. I checked my shelf the other night and decided I wanted to read all of the books. I don’t know how much reading I will get done. I do know that my Saturdays have opened up. College football is on its way out 😦 But at least I’ll have time to read more 🙂

The books I believe I can definitely read this month:

20170404   19063

18079683  2081968515819028  15839976

The books I’ve decided I must read this month as well because…well…I’ve gone mad:

1. Harry Potter series (not all right? I can’t think I’m going to read all the books above and read all the books in this series too? I could watch the movies. Maybe audiobooks? Hmm. We will see.)

2. The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. I was so excited to get this book when it came out. Bought it the week of its release. Its been sitting on my shelf ever since.

3. The Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Just realizing I haven’t really picked any short books this month. So why not add this one to the bunch?

4. Endgame: The Calling by James Frey, Nils Johnson-Shelton. I got this book the other day at Target on sale. It was a late Black Friday shopping trip where I wasn’t really shopping for Black Friday deals. Anyway, this books seems interesting. Some swear its a rip-off of The Hunger Games (love that trilogy). If I get to it this month, I guess I’ll find out.

November Reading Wrap Up

I read 3 books! That is 2 more books than last month. I’m improving!

Half Bad by Sally Green

Summary: The story focuses on Nathan, who is a half code. He’s half white and black witch. The white witches are considered good and the black witches are bad. The story details Nathan’s life throughout the years leading up to his 17th birthday where it will be determined whether he will be classified as a white or black witch. Being classified as a black witch could lead to his death.

I enjoyed the story. But I did feel like something was missing. Anytime I found out something that might have been meant to shock me, my response was “okay”. I do plan on reading the next one in the series. I was left with wanting to know what happened next.

3/5 stars

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Summary: People have read this trilogy, right? I mean, I don’t have to actually summarize it. Katniss, hunger games, district uprisings, President Snow, Peeta, Prim. Keyword summary for the win!

I actually liked this one. Its the end of the trilogy and I knew before going into it that the majority of people hated this book or it was their least favorite. The first book is my favorite. The last two could be a toss up. Maybe I just like to be different. I will say that I would not have been mad if there was another book. Not after Mockingjay. One between Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Would not have been mad about that. Maybe that’s why I’m enjoying that there are 4 movies. I saw Mockingly part 1 and loved it.

4/5 stars

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

Summary: A bookstore, google, and “secret society”. Clay Jannon gets a job working the night shift at a 24 hour bookstore. People come in who only get books from the back where you don’t purchase, you borrow. Things lead to reorganizing the store database that leads to finding out the secret happenings.

This book was fun. Enjoyed it and also at points wondered if anything was going on. It was really fun though. I would love to work at this bookstore.
